Mullai Thinai

The evening drizzle, and the black clouds
Looming large in the skies
Evoking anxiousness
A racing heart , bounding pulse
When will you return?
It’s the Kaar Kaalam (Rainy season)
Forests of Kondrai and Kaya trees
Green, spelling of fertility
Are lush with the smiling jasmine flowers
Fragrance that reigns the breeze
The Mullai (Jasmine)is in blossoms everywhere
Only my smile has disappeared
As I wait patiently for you
The beautiful arabesque view,
Shining water drops on the greens
Sparkling Waterfalls around synchronize
With my pouring eyes, heart and soul
The shepherds are going back with their cattle
As it’s turning dark
You had promised to return soon
My tired , eyes seem to have lost track
Of the time of the day
The eventide brings with it sorrow and despair
The wait seems never ending
Even the rabbits, cattle, deer and the wild fowl
Are going back home content
The Mullai vazh seems to
Be playing a sad melody of wait
The beats of the Verukotaparai are thudding and racing my heart beats
“Oh, my sweetheart, I am back”
he returns drenched in rain
And embraces his love to quench her thirst and wait
