Save the girl child
Holding on to the umbilical cord tight
I saw a faint peeping light
I rushed to a corner to snuggle
Scrambling in the womb as I huddled
The lurking danger made me shiver in fear
Eluding, evading was too much to bear
My own kith and kin did not want me in their arms
As I failed to impress them with girlie charms
“Another girl? No way” my granny growled
To confirm my presence there was an army on prowl
Sobbing and crying, my mother wept aloud
My life was endangered in a wicked cloud
“Get rid of her “echoed all, including my dad
“Our legacy’s bastion would be held only by a lad”
I begged, teary eyed, to let me, life breathe
But they were determined to bestow me a wreath
The doctor proved to be my savior fond and caring
She stood up for me as a shield daring
Quoting legalities and ethics she put them to silence
Refusing to harm me she rebuked them for the violence
If ever you dare to harm the girl child before she’s born
Punishments and even prison would make your dusks and dawn!
I breathed a fresh whiff of fragrant air in style and stride
And continued my journey with dignity and pride
A girl is a Blessing to this universe’ creation
Save the girl child -should be every human being’s mission.
