Memories of Home

The beautiful mountains that hugged the heavens

The rainbows that filled colours in the sky

The swaying branches of the tall green trees

Whispered to the winds as they passed by

The gurgling waterfalls that washed the pebbles

Drenching our bodies and souls with their cascade

The lush greens, the motley flowers,

Oh, memories of my home! they ne’er fade

There were row houses all in a lane

Their courtyards plush with guava trees

Green grass alongside the pathways

A sojourn for the fluttering butterflies and bees

Drumsticks and mangoes as they hung in plenty

Tempting children to pluck them throwing stones

The owners of the house would come running after them

Leaving the fleeing children to moan and groan

The evenings had a fragrant cool breeze

That tugged our hearts to strum its strings

The star-studded night sky with the majestic gibbous

Music from somewhere afar, melted as sweet nothings

Yearning for the pure ambrosial dew drops from above

How I miss my home as this concrete jungle lies bereft

Materialistic splendor in all its worth cannot give

Those fragrant memories of my home that I left
